A pre-fabricated build amongst the eucalyptus trees on an island in the northern beaches of Sydney. On a steep site with no road access our brief became centred around how little can one build for a family home? What is essential?
A southern spine contains a structure of small modules housing the service and functional spaces of the house. Stepped down to the north living areas combine fluidly with deck spaces that connect back to landscape terraces much like wharf structures connect to the land. This supports a living pattern that is open and free.
The timber structure contained 9m curved plywood roof trusses and floor beams together with paired HW columns, all pre-assembled. Externally mounted timber sliding doors established the scale for the house and when peeled back dissolve the facade so the house feels like an open deck.
